Historic Photographs

Historic photographs are invaluable in helping to document the funerary landscape of St. Michael's Cemetery and any changes that occur over time.  The photographs below vividly illustrate changes that have occurred in the cemetery. In the late 19th century, Eva Pfeiffer is shown standing in the cemetery among the many picket fences that surround individual plots and mature oaks shade the site. In stark contrast, Phillip Pfeiffer is shown standing in the same place in the cemetery in 2006. Note that  wood fences are no longer evident in the cemetery, many replaced by cast iron fencing. The dense overstory of the late 19th century was impacted in part by a severe drought in the 1970s.

Please share any old photographs you may have with us. You will be helping to document and preserve the history of St. Michael's Cemetery.
